The Problem Your Product Fixes Should, Ideally, Help The World

As Ben Horowitz relates in The Hard Thing About Hard Things: it’s easy to dig deep in lean times, to marshal the troops, if everybody believes you’re actually making the world a better place (for example, stewarding NetScape against the behemoth of Microsoft Windows Explorer in 1995 or 1996). The point is: it will inspire your employees (and you) if your company or product or good or service or idea serves humanity in some way. It also primes you for the service mentality that the Thank You Economy demands.
